Tunes We Dig: Tommy Tickle

Tommy Tickle is a renowned selector and popular figure in London’s underground scene; hosting his own events under the Menagerie brand, releasing his own tunes on Ad Hoc Records and Paradiso Records, as well as spinning alongside the likes of Gerd Janson, Melvo Bapiste, and Demuja.

But it’s Tommy’s own productions that are starting to take that reputation even further, with the self-released ‘Attitude, Belief & Determination‘ earning radio and club support from heavyweights like PAWSA, Horse Meat Disco, and Jaguar on BBC R1, as well as tastemaker blogs like Gazzz696 and Sloth Boogie. Furthermore, his ‘Trace’ EP release back in November with Part Four Records saw him gather even more critical acclaim from the alternative dance music community.

Kicking off 2021 with gusto, he joins the Zone Focus family with an infectious house groover titled ‘The Fonz’. Cheeky vocal snippets and swinging instrumentals bring bounce to a hugely fun track, and the best bit? It’s free to download! This will also be available on Spotify on 15th January, but for now check out Tommy’s favourite tune selections below.

Take Me Away – Chase & Status

Whenever I do a list of important tunes, this one always comes into play! Take Me Away and the album More Than Alot is a big part of why I got into dance music. It came out just as I started Djing and is full of bangers. Brings back memories every time, such a tune.

Tommy Farrow – Let’s Just

The debut release from Tommy Farrow has made a huge impact on not only his own personal journey but also in the breaks style that has really become hugely popular recently. Definitely one to watch, can’t wait to see what’s next!

Manakinz – Partizan

This tune just makes me feel like I’m in a warehouse rave surrounded by whistles and glow sticks! I don’t know loads about these guys but i believe one of them was a sub club resident for 20 years in glasgow. Their music epitomises everything I picture in my head when I think of that club, definitely one for the bucket list.

FloorplanTell You No Lie

As soon as I heard this song it completely blew me away. It just seems to combine so much that I love in dance music in such an amazing way. Already a classic! In my eyes, tunes like this and Techno Disco Tool are proper gateway tunes to the heavier side of things and have definitely made a mark on my production style.

Floating PointsMyrtle Avenue

I can’t even imagine the amount of times this has been played at the after-afters. Such an incredible piece of music! Every element of the production gives me goosebumps and also the trippy visuals to go with it are spot on. Timeless track for sure.
